How the Password Strength Meter Works
This tool checks your password against common strength criteria and estimates how long it would take an attacker to crack it, helping you spot weak passwords before you use them.
It scores your password based on character variety (lowercase, uppercase, numbers, symbols) and length, then calculates entropy — the total number of possible combinations — to estimate brute-force crack time assuming an attacker can make about 1 trillion guesses per second.
Example: a password like "Tr0ub4dor!23xyz" mixes all four character types and is 15 characters long, giving it high entropy and an estimated crack time of centuries, compared to a simple word like "password123" which could be cracked in seconds.
